New committee to tackle Gunners' problems

Addressing the supporters after his election, chairperson Ludo Kemoeng said they would have to work around the clock to restore normalcy at the once glamour club.

He said their immediate task will be to motivate players and the technical team following the departure of Daniel 'Chicco' Nare and influential skipper, Ofentse Mmipi.

The club faces financial difficulties blamed on the outgoing committee, which saw players boycott training while some terminated their contracts.

The previous committee said negotiations with potential sponsors collapsed owing to instability at the club. The club is currently without a sponsor and the new committee will have to work hard to clean the club's image and lure financial backers to the club.

Kemoeng said they would device a strategic plan to take the team forward. He asked for the supporters' patience during the transition period. 'Strategic planning is essential so the team can have a direction. We will try everything possible to restore pride and honour to the club and that can only be possible with your support,' he pleaded with the supporters.

Inside sources at the club told Mmegi Sport that it has always been the plan of some section of the supporters to push out the old committee so they can replace it with their preferred candidates. A source who preferred anonymity said the resignation of Nare and some players was stage-managed to force the executive out.

He claimed that now that the old committee is gone, the new office bearers will engage Nare and the players who left with a view of luring them back this week.

Despite terminating his contract, captain Mmipi is reported to have continued training with the club last week.

Meanwhile, the club was not represented at the Premier League general assembly that took place in Palapye on Saturday.

The Premier League is reported to have briefed the assembly that they are not folding their arms but engaged the previous committee on the situation obtaining at Gunners. This was after the delegates enquired about what the Premier League office was doing about the scenario at the troubled club.
