Naughty Boys dismiss Setswe

A fortnight ago, Setswe and Molefhe had a heated exchange on the bench when the team won 2-1 against Mochudi Buffaloes in Tlokweng. The argument started when Setswe sough to make a substitution and Molefhe challenged the decision. Thereafter an angry Setswe walked out in protest.

That was the last time he was on the bench. Management decided to bring in former player Nkwebi Mojanaga to take charge against Masitaoka last Saturday in a tie which ended 1-1. Management then held a meeting this week to decide Setswe's fate and decided to dismiss him.

Setswe told Mmegi Sport on Tuesday evening that he was disappointed after chairman Thulagano Segokgo told him that they had decide to part ways with him.

'I met the chairman this afternoon (Tuesday) and he told me that my services would no longer be needed at the club. To be honest, I am disappointed at the way things have gone.

I was not fired based on performance but only because some individuals were bent on seeing me out. I thought it would have been better if I was called to that meeting so I would be able to hear what they think of me or what made them fire me,' Setswe said.

'I have gained experience over the years assisting different people at Naughty Boys like Ezekiel Mpofu and I was assisting Moks (Mooketsi  Motlhagodi) the last time the team gained promotion to the Premier League.

So this cannot be because of my inexperience. I had what it takes to lead the team to promotion,' he stated.   Although he expressed disappointment at the ugly turn of events, Setswe said he was not bitter that the club no longer needed him. He hopes management will learn to address problems at the club in a better way. 'If my dismissal means Naughty Boys will be better, it is good because football will be the winner. But I wish those running the club will learn to put the club's interests before individual egos,' he said. Segokgo however, claimed that Setswe was not fired.

He said the coach indicated that he was leaving the team after the Buffaloes game and all the management did was to accept his request. He said the management was not happy with Setswe's conduct during the Buffaloes game.

'For him to storm out of the match like that was totally unacceptable. If he was angry with someone or something, he could have raised his concerns properly instead of behaving like that. We understand this happened in the heat of the moment but we expected him to handle things in a dignified manner,' he said.

Segokgo would not say whether Molefhe was right to dictate to the coach on how to substitute. But he insisted that the coach should have aired his concerns properly.

He said that they were disappointed that Setswe decided to talk to the media about the issue before taking it up with management.
