BNF 'respects' Gaborone's decision to defect to BDP

'We can't question his decision,' BNF spokesman, Moeti Mohwasa said yesterday. He stated that the party cannot applaud Gaborone, a former BNF vice-president for joining the BDP.

The defection of Gaborone to the BDP means that BNF will remain with five MPs, the same as the Botswana Congress Party (BCP). Gaborone is the first MP to defect from BNF to the BDP. He quit the BNF on Tuesday, saying it is a party of anarchy.

He said there is no law and order in the party that has been considered as the main opposition for a long time.  Meanwhile, the BDP central committee has approved the membership application of Gaborone.

'We have written a letter to welcome him,' said BDP executive secretary, Dr Comma Serema.

The BDP official said they believe that Gaborone will add value to the party.  He said Gaborone will attend a meeting of the BDP parliamentary caucus on Saturday.

He revealed that Gaborone will attend the launch of the membership drive campaign in Mahalapye which has been dubbed 'Domi ke yame'. Serema said the fact that Gaborone has rejoined the BDP shows that Batswana still have confidence in the party.
