Debswana makes senior appointment

 

Len will have a dual reporting relationship to General Manager - Projects, Planning & Technical Services (Debswana) and Group Manager - Global Mining.

 'Clearly this is a demonstration of our knowledge, experience and expertise in the business of mining.  Len is testament that we can export more than just the diamonds, but also the knowledge about mining,' Debswana Managing Director, Blackie Marole commented. In his new role, Len will guide and lead the activities regarding mine planning and design to ensure that the value from the De Beers Family of Companies mineral reserves are optimised within the diamond mining value chain. In addition, he will also provide technical leadership, due diligence and technical auditing as well as identifying and realising opportunities for continuous business improvement.

His role of leading the conceptualisation and long-term planning of an integrated approach to realising optimal value from Debswana's current resource bodies will continue.

Len has a wealth of experience in Mining having started his career with Debswana in 1983 as a Graduate Trainee and has held several positions both within production and mine planning while at Debswana. 

He was promoted and seconded to De Beers CHQ as Divisional Mining Engineer from 2001 to 2002. Since December 2002, he has been at Debswana Head Office as Senior Divisional Mining Engineer, the position he held until December 2006 when he was promoted to Senior Manager - Long Term Integrated Planning.  Len holds a B Eng (Hons) - Mining Engineering from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (UK).

Len will continue to be based in Botswana.
