Women's rugby side wins first silverware

Assistant coach, Batshabeng Keopetswe who was in charge of the team, guided the side to a 24-0 defeat of Tuks University in the final. Keopetswe said eight teams took part in the competition.

The teams were divided into two pools. Botswana was in Pool B with Blue Bulls, Tuks University and Namibia Rio Panda.

Botswana finished second in the pool and proceeded to the semi-finals where it lost 14-0 to Blue Bulls. Botswana then made it to the Plate final after defeating Blue Bulls development side 12-0 and Rio Panda 12-10.

Keopetswe is elated with the progress that the team has made. He said the women's rugby side started competing in 2008 and already there are signs of progress. 'The team did a wonderful job in the past tournament. They showed their experience in the competition,' he said

The team did not perform well in Zimbabwe last month in the CASALS tournament but he stated that they are happy with the progress it has made. Keopetswe said the team needs more games to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers next year.
