Cresta rejects workers' petition

Speaking to Mmegi yesterday, chairman of the Botswana Hotel Travel and Tourism Workers Union, Mpho Moloi said they were shocked when Cresta Marakanelo group human resources manager Segomotso Banda refused to receive their petition, saying they should take it to the Commissioner of Labour. 'We were rudely shocked by her refusal, because we have a dispute with the company and not the Labour Department or Labour Commissioner.

But nonetheless, we are still going on with our strike until Saturday as promised,' he said.

Moloi said they intend to march to the office of the Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Kitso Mokaila to air their grievances against the management of the hotel chain.

The union embarked on a weeklong strike on Monday after a deadlock with the company management over a pay rise. Efforts to reach Banda for comment were unsuccessful as she was reportedly locked in a lengthy meeting.
