Tears of joy as police officer is acquitted discharged of rape

Ntau was accused of raping a junior officer at the Serious Crime Squad offices in Gaborone in August 2009.

Slave said that the complainant was inconsistent in her testimony hence the prosecution could not rely on her to secure a conviction.

She said that it was strange that the complainant claims she was raped at a time when there were other people in the compound that housed the police offices but she did not scream for help.

She said that after the alleged rape, she claimed to have jumped fence and headed to the Central Police Station to report the incident.

Slave added that even the forensic report shows that there was no semen detected in the complainant's private parts, yet she claimed the accused did not use any protective device. She concluded that there was a set up.

Speaking to this reporters outside court, Ntau said that he has always been innocent.

He said that there was a plot to topple him by colleagues who were jealous of his job progression. He revealed that the fight for a senior position in the office led to the set-up, adding that even one of the state witnesses is currently acting on the position he was promoted to. While still happy about the acquittal, Ntau said he faced an uncertain future, as there is a pending disciplinary hearing related to the alleged rape.

'This case nearly destroyed my future, and caused instability in my marriage, which was only seven months old at the time of the alleged rape,' he said.

The prosecution team said they accept the court ruling and would sit down and see the way forward.
