Popa croise as unbeaten streak continues

Township Rollers continued their winning ways with a 4-0 thumping of city rivals Notwane in a free-flowing match played at the UB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The defending champions find their opener through Edwin Olerile's well taken free kick. Notwane conceded a free kick a few feet from the 18-yard area and the stocky left back stood up and curled the ball beautifully around the Notwane wall, beating goalkeeper Botlhe Moralo on the near post.

Notwane tried to slow the pace of the game but the plan was ably foiled by the alert Rollers' side as Notwane failed to produce any meaningful attack.

Rollers doubled their lead five minutes before recess through Mweuka Musonda. The former Mochudi Centre Chiefs' man tapped in a low powerful cross from Olerile. After the break, Rollers continued with numerous attacks looking to increase their tally and captain Mogorosi scored with a scotcher from inside the box in the 53rd minute.

Second half substitute Onalethata Tshekiso put the last nail on Toronto's coffin with a fourth goal 16 minutes before time with Mogorosi being the provider this time. Rollers' coach Wesley Mondo introduced youngsters Phenyo Molefhe and Oteng Mongala in the second half to wrap up the game but everything seemed to be set already.

Speaking to Sport Monitor in a post-match interview, Rollers' Mondo said he was happy with the way his team played. 'I am glad we won this game by a big margin, but I think it is all about planning, we planned very well for this game because we know they (Notwane) like troubling big teams,' he said. Mondo emphasised the importance of consistency in the league, as it is one that can bring you the title. He said he found it important to give youngsters a run after wrapping up the game so they also get a taste of what goes on in the field and provide the needed depth for the squad. For his part, Notwane stand-in coach Chris Rabalago said their game plan on the day did not go right. He said they tried by all means to pull down Rollers' pace but they could not. 'They played well, created chances and took them, they were superior on the day and they are generally a good side that has been doing well lately,' he said.
