Man accused of raping five-year old

The accused, Mbonisi Mpofu, who is an illegal immigrant, is alleged to have raped the child while she was playing with others at the house he is staying at.

Superintendent Motsholathebe Mothibi told The Monitor that the rape occurred while the child's parents were away. 'The child's parents, who are neighbours of the accused person were away, but within Tatisiding. They had left the child playing with others at the neighbours house,' he said.

Mothibi said the parents only discovered that the child had been sexually abused when the she complained of some pain.

The child is admitted at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital with severe injuries on her womanhood.

Mothibi stated that this is the first case of this nature since the beginning of this year. He encouraged people to always report illegal immigrants to the police.

Meanwhile Mpofu appeared before the magistrate for arraignment on Friday on a single count of rape. The prosecution applied for his further remand saying he is an illegal immigrant and that the investigations were still fresh.

Mothibi said on the same matter, they have also charged another Zimbabwean man with one count of aiding and abetting an illegal immigrant. He said the accused, Victor Chuma, who is a legal immigrant had been staying with Mpofu, who is an illegal immigrant.

He said their investigation had proven that the landlord did not know about Mpofu's stay at her house.
