GU Increase BMC Woes

Sageby Sandaka turned inside the box in the 44th minute to fire in a low shot, which caught goalkeeper Cosmos Lombala completely off guard after his defence failed to challenge the GU striker. His strike gave GU a 1-0 lead at the break.

The two sides started the match in attacking mode but it was GU who looked more threatening, hence the goal. Gothata Samoenza and Lovemore Murwira struggled on the left for BMC in the absence of captain Mosimanegape Ramohibidu as Sandaka, Gabriel Bokhutlo and Kenny Ledikwe terrorised them.

Despite being under pressure, BMC broke loose in the 19th minute with GU defender Gobonyeone 'Shoes' Selefa blundering to let Motsholetsi Sikele snatch the ball and pass it to Kenanao Kgetholetsile on the right.

Kgetholetsile attempted to set up Peter Ngwenya but Kgosietsile Senjoba in GU goal provided the much-needed cover. As the BMC defence of Alex Matshameko, Omphemetse Molapo, Tshepo Maikano and Samoenza showed cracks as Sandaka hit the post in the 20th minute with Lombala completely beaten.

The two sides continued to exchange fire and in the 35th minute, it was GU on the receiving end after Murwira did well to beat Given Mpundu on the right before sending chest level cross for Kgetholetsile whose header was cleared off the line by Selefa.

BMC veteran defender, Matshameko blundered in the 43rd minute but Chikomo failed to take advantage with only Lombala to beat. Two minutes after the break, BMC defence was found wanting again with Molapo's short pass failing to reach the limping Matshameko and Chikomo to make it 2-0.

BMC got a penalty in the 55th minute and Kgetholetsile stepped up to convert with a powerful shot to reduce the deficit.GU coach, Mike Sithole, sensed danger and introduced dribbling left winger Mandla Mgadla and Vincent Phiri for Thebe Maiketso and Selefa respectively.

After the changes, BMC had to parry waves of attack with Ofentse Nato controlling the GU engine room with ease. Sikele's performance for BMC continued to decline and infuriated coach Kaiser Kalambo eventually replaced him in the 75th minute for veteran Phemelo Ditsile who made very little impact as GU were now in total control.

GU fans were left fuming in the 85th minute when referee Tirelo Mositwane ordered a penalty re-take after Chikomo scored from the spot following Maikano's bad tackle on Phiri. The resultant re-take was saved by Lombala.
