Choppies recall Chakalaka after labelling mix-up

In a press release yesterday, Choppies Superstores said that they have recalled their Chakalaka 410 grams batch number 1141 from all stores with immediate effect after a few cans of peas soup were erroneously labelled as Chakalaka.

Purchasing assistant at Choppies Distribution head office, Medo Selogilwe said early this week, they received a complaint from a customer in Gaborone who said he found soup in a Choppies branded Chakalaka can. She said that a notice was released immediately warning that some cans of peas soup may be labelled as Chakalaka, and that all the products would be recalled with immediate effect.

'There is currently no Choppies brand Chakalaka in all Choppies stores nationwide, and we have confirmed this,' she said. All the recalled products would be returned to the manufacturer in South Africa and will be back on the shelves as soon as the mix up is sorted, she explained.   Selogilwe advised those who bought Chakalaka and found that it is soup to immediately take it back to the nearest Choppies store for a refund or a replacement.

'Even if you do not have a receipt you are still welcome. As long as the can has the Choppies brand label, you will be helped,' she said.

She said they suspect that not many cans could have been in the stores because they stopped the supply immediately they knew about the mix up.   'We suspect that about 10 or so cans could have been in stores already.  But we have received just one complaint in Gaborone so far.  However, we still recalled all Choppies Chakalaka from all stores,' she said.
