BFA draws AFCON budget proposal

The association has begun drafting a detailed budget proposal for the team's preparations for the biennial tournament to be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

The BFA has to submit the proposal to the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) before April 2012. BFA chief executive officer, Judge Mookodi said they do not want to rush the process of compiling the budget proposal.

'We have not submitted our budget proposal as we are still doing our costing. We want to be thorough. We know that our ordinary grant will not suffice,' he said.

He stated that the proposal should be treated as a special project. He explained that the budget will cover preparations for the 2012 AFCON finals, the tournament itself and after.

Although he could not give an estimate, Mookodi said the budget will run into millions.

The Minister of Sports, Youth and Culture, Shaw Kgathi has said there is still ample time for the BFA to compile its budget. The BNSC financial year ends in December and proposals from affiliates are submitted in April. Meanwhile, the BFA has paid Zebras' players their bonuses. However, the team sponsor, Orange, is yet to pay its bonuses and Mookodi said the matter is being sorted [out].
