Regions battle for supremacy at Kofukan championships

Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) spokesperson, Bose Caiphus, said the best karatekas from the two regions will compete in both team and individual categories. He said that the tournament is open to both men and women from the ages of eight upwards. He expects competition to be intense as the championships feature only the best karatekas. He said at such competitions, karatekas are under pressure to perform well because they are not just representing their clubs but their regions. The tournament will be used to select the team to represent Botswana at the April 2011 Kofukan World Championships in Russia. Caiphus said karatekas' performances throughout the year will be considered when naming the team to Russia. The north-south contest is the last Kofukan tournament this year. Caiphus said the number of karatekas in the team to Russia will be determined by the amount of money BOKA will allocate the Botswana Kofukan Federation.
