Double Action, BFA clash over sponsors' logo

The dispute arose after the BFA secured sponsorship for the women's league.

Double Action spokesperson, Senki Sesinyi said the BFA play rules and regulations state that clubs can put their sponsors' logo on the front of their jerseys.

Sesinyi argued that the BFA had breached Section 19.2 of the play rules and regulations.

The section reads: 'Clubs may write the name or logo of their sponsors, if any, on the front of the jerseys.

The name of the sponsor of the championship or competition shall, if not written on the front of the jerseys, be written on the sleeves of the jerseys'.

Double Action wants the sponsor's logo to be placed on the sleeves of the jerseys.

The club said it might lose its sponsor if they are not allowed to put the logo in front of the jerseys as per the contract.

'Our sponsors feel that we are breaching our sponsorship agreements with them,' Sesinyi said.

BFA's Tshepo Mphukuthi who is in charge of women's football said they are not in breach of the play rules and regulations.

He said the competition sponsor's logo can be either on the front or sleeves of the jerseys. He said Double Action has raised its objection and the BFA is in the process of meeting the club and therefore it will be improper to discuss the issue further.

The issue of sponsors' logo came up following the league's sponsorship deal signed with AT & T Monnakgotla.

The sponsors' logo are printed on the front part of the jerseys which saw some clubs threatening to boycott the league.

But Sesinyi hit out at the BFA, arguing the association is undermining women's football. He said some of their sponsors are paying school fees for their players and it will not be good if they lose them.

Sesinyi accused BFA of arrogance and said the association may be deliberately out to belittle women football.

'They are just doing it because it is the women's league. The BFA is reversing efforts made in women's football,' he said.
