Mascarenhas stripped of her BBA position

The BBA took the decision in Selebi-Phikwe last weekend.

BBA president, Kitso Robert told Mmegi Sport that the committee was not impressed with the information Mascarenhas give to the media and the general public. He said the association expected Mascarenhas to defend the sport but this has not been the case. Robert said the public should not be told about BBA issues before they are discussed internally. '(Most of) the information that she gave to the media was not true. One such incident is when she accused national team coach, John Page of being unprofessional. Page is a top coach, even in his country, South Africa,' he said. Robert added that the BBA will co-opt a new spokesperson until elections are held in two years' [time].

Mascarenhas has been BBA spokesperson for two years. Despite being removed from her post, she will continue playing bowls locally and internationally. Mascarenhas is the top female bowler in Africa. She was part of the team that represented Botswana at the just-ended Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, Phikwe A are the winners of the Botsogo Tuli Trophy tournament held at the Selebi-Phikwe Bowling Club last weekend. The team fielded Ray Mascarenhas, Christopher Humphrey, Lesego Motladiile and Lebo Mascarenhas. Botsogo Health Plan sponsored the tournament with P15, 000.

Robert said 2010 has been a difficult year for bowling. He said problems arose from the economic downturn. 'Players had to choose between competing in the African States and the Commonwealth Games,' said Robert.
