Double Action leads the pack again

The triple league champions lead the AT&T Monnakgotla Women Football League (WFL) log with 21 points. The Gaborone side, unbeaten this season, has won seven games, scoring 52 goals in the process.

For the first time, the women league has a sponsor and unlike before, Double Action has not enjoyed an easy run in the competition. Breathing heavily down their necks are rivals Untouchables who have 19 points with Township Rollers third with 18 points from six games. Real Touch are finding the going tough as they languish at the bottom of the log with just one win from eight games. The experienced campaigners trail debutants like Golden Girls and South East Girls United who are ninth and tenth respectively.

Double Action coach, Agreement Podi is confident that his side will easily retain the title. He said they are not only looking at winning the league but breaking the record of the number of goals scored per season. He said all they needed to do is to win their outstanding game to command a healthy lead at the top. The team scored 114 goals last season. This season they have 52 with striker Thuto 'Ferah' Ramafifi leading the scoring charts with 27 goals.

Podi said their good performance is a sign that their team has big intentions besides superb teamwork by administrators, management, coaches and players. 'We also have a sound technical team,' he added. He pointed out that though his team is doing well, it is obvious the opponents' level of play has improved significantly this season. 'That has also motivated us to up our game,' Podi said. Double Action has not only set the pace in the field of play and beyond. It is the first and the only women football club with a website. Double Action has attracted two sponsors, NTR Technologies and Moretlwana Fitness Studio where players do physical training. The AT & T Monnakgotla league champions will win P30, 000. The transport company donated P300, 000 to sponsor the league.
