Local riders to compete in Zim Summer Series

Hosts Bog Wheelers Club in Harare extended the invitation to the Francistown-based club for the December 8-12 event.

The Zimbabwe club was reportedly impressed with the standard of motor cross racing displayed by Lobelo riders when they competed in Zvishavane in August.

The week-long Summer Series will be held in Harare at Donnybrook raceway and in Marondera at Burles Motocross Park and will consist of supercross and motocross competitions.

LRCF riders are currently training, under team coach Nelson de Sousa at their home track just outside Francistown.  'Our team will be ready for this Zimbabwe Summer Series challenge in December, and also gain more external motocross racing experience, in preparation for our 2011 racing calendar, which will see our club riders on the starting grids in Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia,' said de Sousa.

The LRCF team for this 2010 Zimbabwe Summer series includes Joshua Potts and Brady Armstrong, who topped the Gaborone Motocross 2010 season respectively in the 65cc class, of motocross and flat track racing. Gaborone-based 85cc rider Kitso Bosele will also compete.   Damian de Sousa continues to train hard and prepare for his 125cc class, and hopefully win the team another podium finish, as he did in Zvishavane.

In addition, the coach said de Sousa has already been identified as a potential AMU championship rider in 2011.  David Kidd and Clayton Davis will represent the LRCF team in the senior classes on their 250cc and 450cc bikes respectively.

Gaborone-based motocross and off-road rider Lepsy Mosope is expected to complete the riders' team.

'This Summer Series will allow LRCF to network more with clubs, officials and riders, and extend invitations for those riders, to visit and compete in Botswana from next year, as we strive to develop motor sport, under the leadership of our Botswana Motor Sports Association,' said LRCF chairman, Gregg Armstrong.
