Transport dept starts one-stop service initiative

The department is currently negotiating with different organisations about partnering with them to bring services closer to people by operating in places they already access.

Public relations officer, Amos Motshegwe told Mmegi yesterday that this initiative is intended to make it easier for their clients as they will not have to move from one place to another to access different services.

'We want to create a one stop shopping complex for our clients so that they do not move from one place to another for services that they can get in just one place,' he said.

Motshegwe revealed that they have already started offering vehicle registration and licensing services at the revenue office of the department of water affairs headquarters, opposite Old Naledi in Gaborone.

'We have now secured office space at the department of water affairs where we currently offer services such as renewal of vehicle license; change of ownership; registration of vehicles; duplicate document; license exemption and temporary motor vehicle,' he said.  The services are offered from 7.45am until 3.30pm.

Motshegwe said they intend to provide more services at the department of water affairs in the near future.

'Currently we only renew licenses but in the future we want to offer driver licensing services.  Our clients will be able to book for licensing and will be issued with licenses at water affairs,' he said.

Motshegwe said they are also negotiating with Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) to secure an office where they will be able to serve their clients.  'We are also talking to BPC because we have a lot of clients going there and we want them to access our services even when they want BPC services,' he said.

He explained that in future, the department of road transport and safety will be offering services in all post offices nationwide so that people will not have to travel long distances to access their services.

'We want to be in all organisations or places where there are large numbers of people coming for services on a daily places,' he said.

Motshegwe said that the identified paces will be permanent offices where people can always access their services without any difficulty.
