Dukwi refugees found with elephant tusks

The two refugees, Angolan Herculano Andrean, 47 and Charles Watmon of Uganda,40, were found in possession of the trophies last Tuesday in Francistown.

However, one of them, Watmon escaped from police custody leaving only Andrean to appear for mention yesterday. Watmon has however since been arrested and after Andrean had been called to the dock, state prosecutor, David Pitlagano requested that the charge sheet be amended to include the Ugandan, leading to the postponement of the case to yesterday.

In another matter before Gabanagae, a Zimbabwean, Moses Mwenza told the court that a camera he is accused of stealing was his as no one had come forward to claim it.

'It has taken the police up to seven months to try and find the owner of the camera and this shows that it is mine. They also knew about my Father's address in Zimbabwe, but they never bothered to go and ask him about the camera,' he argued.

In his submission, the prosecutor Moffat Dick said on January 12,2008, at or near Riverside location in Francistown, Mwenza was found in possession of a camera that he failed to account for.

Mwenza also had no witnesses, while the prosecution had three, namely the police officers who executed the arrest and the investigating officer, said Dick.

The case is continuing.
