Can Eunice emulate Naledi and Kitso in My Star show?

She was in the same show with the duo when it started in 2007.  Back then Eunice made a big impression during the inaugural singing talent search in 2007 when she reached the Top 7, where she was eliminated by the impeccable Kabo Matlho, who went on to record the inaugural Pop Star Botswana album with the eventual winner Tshepo Dikomang.

Eunice must have watched with envy last year as Naledi and Kitso took the show by storm, going all the way to the finals. They eventually recorded albums with Pop Star Botswana, as Kitso won the competition and Naledi was a joint runner-up with Dikeledi.

Back then, it was her hard to find vocals that made Eunice one of the stars of the show, as she manages to reproduce with ease the vocal styles of Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston.

But Eunice was hard done by her own laziness.  She seemed to be too playful and paid dearly for failure to take the competition seriously.

There are now signs that Eunice might have learnt from her past mistakes. She does not only dress immaculately for the TV show week in, week out, but her level of performance has been consistently impressive.

Perhaps the fact that she has made it to the top 10 speaks volumes for her.  But she knows better than anybody else that the top 10 stage is more than just the ability to sing international stars' classics. This stage also involves song writing and composition.

But Eunice has been through all that, and perhaps her experience will count for her just like it helped the likes of Naledi and Kitso last year?

But the playing field looks quite different this time, especially with Kedibonye already being tipped to go all the way. Of course Kedibonye still has to show Btv viewers how impeccable her song composition and writing skills are in the coming weeks.

Eunice will also have to deal with the threat that comes from Wame, who has been one of the outstanding performers in the show so far; we just have to see how she performs in the next tasks.

Stephanie is another hugely gifted contestant but she sometimes doesn't give it her all. Compare her to Kgalalelo, who strives to give it her best shot every week, or Galaletsang, whose work ethic has been very impressive.

From the look of things, however, Gaone and Atamelang remain the early favourites to exit the top 10.Atamelang will have to get her voters to work really hard because her deep vocals are no longer helping her and she failed to do justice to her last song.

After so many weeks in the show, one would not expect somebody like Gaone to  still be fumbling and suffering from the kind of stage fright she exhibited last week. She chose a very complicated studio song by Mariah Carey and forgot the lyrics, ran out breath and was out of pitch. If she survives the next elimination, Gaone will have to make up for this blunder.

Omphemetse might have charmed us with her good looks, strong fashion sense, cowboy style and wacko-jacko moves in recent weeks, but she can only learn from the events of this past weekend that beauty is not enough in this show, otherwise pretty Lucia would still be in the show.
