Ntime scoops BNFYL presidency

Ntime garnered 144 votes, whilst Selala and Madome received 117 and 80 votes respectively. Besides the presidency, Ntime's lobby-group won all the executive committee posts-from vice-president to administrative secretary.

The vice president is now Mosanta North councillor Tona Mooketsi who romped to victory after shrugging off Khumaga councillor Thomas Kgethenyane and Meshack Mthimkhulu.

Former publicity secretary Arafat Khan is the new secretary general after winning with 183 votes, a three-man contest that saw former secretary general Duncan Masenyapelo (72 votes) and Benjamin Kelepang (78 votes) falling on the wayside. Khan will be deputised by Boykie Gaofiwe who beat Davis Tau of Gaborone Central and specially elected councilor Orara Marang.  Meanwhile the treasurer is Tlamelo Shadikong; a specially elected councillor in Kgalagadi North and the administrative secretary is Kenny Mabote.

The publicity secretary position went to Maikgantsho Ramontsho, a Letlhakeng West activist. Other positions, which are not in the executive, saw the Ntime lobby group winning four posts, Chalido's one and Selala's taking three.

In an interview after the elections, Khan said that though the congress was highly attended, he was disappointed that most people did not vote, as they did not have Omang cards with them, whilst some were absent during the elections. Of the 639 youth registered to vote, only 363 people voted.  The new secretary general has announced that their main agenda would be to encourage reconciliation and unity in the BNF fold.
