Still no premiership action in Palapye

There will be no premiership football in Palapye, at least for this season, after local premiership rookies, Motlakase Power Dynamos were unable to complete their ambitious stadium project on time. Due to the unavailability of a suitable stadium in Palapye, Motlakase have had to play their 'home matches' about 150km away in either Francistown or Selebi-Phikwe.

Motlakase chairperson Mangisi Segadimo said yesterday that they had initially thought they were going to play much of the second round at their stadium but that has not been possible. Segadimo said they failed to complete the stadium on schedule because they concentrated their efforts on improving the team's performance and neglected the stadium project.

He however said the stadium should be complete before the beginning of the new season as all the digging and soil compacting has been done. ' We are just waiting for the machines to do the last compacting and then we will lay the turf,' he said.

Although the changerooms are still outstanding, Segadimo said they would be done and completed during the off-season.

Meanwhile, Segadimo is upbeat that they will gain enough points from the remaining three games to evade the dreaded relegation axe.

'Once we play in our own stadium and in front of our supporters, we shall be able to concentrate on playing constructive football and winning games,' Segadimo said.

The club has been applauded for being the first side to build its own facility in the country. New Premier League side, Miscellaneous from neighbouring Serowe, is expected to use the Motlakase Stadium in the new campaign.
