Chomie Maposo to be buried Saturday 8 May

His portraits of first president, Seretse Khama were among his favourites, according to colleagues at the Department of Information.  He probably counted among the first president's preferred photographers, if not his favourite. His exceptional work occupied a space at the first ever Debswana sponsored photographic exhibition put up by the Botswana Journalists Association in the 1990s at the Gaborone Sun.

It would have been a miracle if one of his works did not take first prize. Chomie worked in almost all the private newspaper newsrooms as a free-lance photographer after he left the Department of information.

His pictures appeared at the Botswana Guardian, Sun, and Newslink and on the walls of several captains of the corporate world where he was almost always the first choice photographer for the big events.

In his last years he wanted to return to the government department where he had work to finish, but sadly attempts to negotiate with the authorities for his return did not bear results. He was deeply troubled by the failure of his efforts and retired to Lobatse where he spent the better part of his last years. Chomie was a great supporter of BOJA, the Botswana Press Club and the journalism movement in general. He will be sorely missed. Chomie will be buried on Saturday 8 May in Lobatse.
