Prosecutor faces corruption charge

Moloko Ursula Mokgokong, 47, who was not in court due to ill health, was represented by her attorney Tshekiso Tshekiso of Kgalemang and Associates when the suspects appeared before Chief Magistrate Chris Gabanagae on Tuesday. Mokgokong is said to be on a six-months sick leave in South Africa.

The six pleaded not guilty to contravening Section 24 (2) as read with Section 36 of the Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.The other five accused are Emmanuel Richard Mutasa, 61, a director of Monty Builders and resident of Area W, Francistown, Reuben Tshule, 37, a principal technical officer, Julius Selemogwe, 40, also a principal technical officer, Thapelo Duna, 31 and Keolopile Simane, 30.

According to the state represented by Chief State Counsel, Antoinette Kula, on 20 January this year, the six accused allegedly tried to bribe DCEC officer Morutuludi Tshwanelo with a promise of P20 000 if he stole and destroyed an investigation docket on Mokgokong, Mutasa, Tshule and Selemogwe.

The officer, according to the charge sheet, had already been given P4 000, as down payment. Malike Mmohe of Mmohe Attorneys represented Tshule and Selemogwe while Mutasa, Duna and Simane were unrepresented.

The case is expected to resume on June 10 when the trial date will be set.
