Stars return to Chiefs put on hold

The two players returned recently from a loan spell at South African First Division club, Bay United where they played under former Zebras coach, David Bright. There has been confusion about the fate of players with reports that they can start playing for Chiefs immediately after the end of their loan spell.

The Botswana Premier League (BPL) has taken the matter to the Players' Status Committee to determine whether the players can be registered to play for any club this season.

'As you know, the Premier League (BPL) are responsible for registering players. They have asked for consent from us before they can proceed with the registration,' Players' Status Committee secretary, Tumagole Tumagole said.

He could not state when the committee will address the issue as those who sit on it have commitments elsewhere. But meanwhile, he said the players are not eligible to play in the local league.

The players' loan spell was reportedly supposed to end in May but they decided to terminate their contracts when Bay United failed in its promotion bid. Reports from South Africa indicate that the club will be liquidated this week.

Chiefs were quick to recall their stars in a bid to strengthen their squad as they chase the league title. Magosi trail log leaders Township Rollers by five points with 11 games to go.
