BDF XI meet Chiefs in clash of troubled sides

BDF XI fired their coach, Stanley Mwaanga on Monday after a series of poor performances. The sacking came after BDF XI failed to beat a 10-man BMC last week.

Mwaanga led Matebele to fourth position last season when they reached the final of the Coca-Cola Cup where they lost on penalties to Uniao Flamengo Santos. It was expected that this season, BDF XI will challenge for the league title but the army side has failed to deliver.

Assistant coach, Louis Setshwane will be in charge until a permanent replacement is found. He will have a major task of getting players focused for tonight's game.

BDF XI will miss the services of captain Patrick Motsepe who is serving a suspension.

Like Matebele, Chiefs have had problems. After going for 18 games without a loss, they fell to ECCO City Greens and later Notwane. As if this is not enough, they were embroiled in a controversial Coca-Cola Cup match against TAFIC in Selebi-Phikwe, which was abandoned prematurely.

The Coca-Cola Cup organising committee awarded the tie to Chiefs but the club could still face punishment from the Botswana Football Association (BFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC) after some of their officials were said to have invaded the pitch and threatened the referee.

Last weekend, Chiefs were inactive because their players travelled with the Zebras to Namibia.

With two games in hand, they are now 14 points adrift of pacesetters, Rollers. Magosi have surrendered second spot to Uniao Flamengo Santos and now lie third. They could however return to second spot if they win tonight.

Chiefs' defence has been letting in soft goals and it remains to be seen how they will fare against a struggling but still dangerous BDF XI.
