Ten vacant posts for Land Board Services

In an advert in The Monitor, the ministry advertised 10 posts for the post of deputy land board secretary, six for sub-land board secretary and six for deputy sub-land secretary.

The deputy land board secretary posts are tenable in Chobe, Ghanzi, Kgalagadi, Kweneng, Ngwato, Rolong, Tati and Tawana land boards, whilst the sub-land board secretary posts are tenable in Ngwato, Tawana and Ngwaketse land boards. On the other hand the deputy sub-land board secretary posts are tenable in Ngwaketse, Ngwato and Tawana land boards.

The main job of the deputy sub-land secretary is to 'carry out in conjunction with the land board secretary the function of planning, coordinating, controlling and directing the various activities of the land board in order to achieve objectives of the institution,' reads the advert. The sub-land board secretary's job entails providing strategic leadership of the subordinate land board in accordance with the Tribal Land Act and relevant legislations, whilst the deputy sub-land board secretary coordinates core functions at Sub-Land Board level namely surveys and mapping, land registration and Estate Management, Land Use Planning and Work Services.  Explaining the upgrade, Land sand Housing Minister Nonofo Molefhi said last year they carried out a skills inventory whereupon they realized that some officers in acting positions in the Land Board Services department were not suitably qualified whilst some were over-qualified for the posts. They also realized that some had technical expertise and lacked management skills.

'Then we created a job profile where it was decided that for one to be a deputy land board secretary or sub-land secretary they need to have certain qualifications,' he said. The minister has said the positions were advertised after they re-deployed the officers acting in them. The officers, he said, if interested, would also have to apply for the advertised positions.

'Nowadays it is no guarantee that when you are acting you will get the positions. You have to fit certain requirements,' he said.

The advert states that applicants should have a Degree in Land Use Planning, Land Surveying, Land Administration, and other related fields.
