Division of labour eludes BNF lobbyists

So far, there is a pattern indicating a meeting of minds in the choice of personnel but disagreement in who is to get what. That suggests the party, which was embroiled in internal bickering towards the general elections goes to its congress in July looking more united.

The three lobby lists in circulation have many common names and this might mean the party is ready to forge ahead as a united force.Duma Boko, a Gaborone based lawyer leads one list as president whilst, on the other he is slotted for the vice-presidency. Kgatleng East legislator, Isaac Mabiletsa appears in two lists as a vice-presidential candidate while in the other one, he is featured as a presidential hopeful.

Like the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) treasurer, Satar Dada last year, former Gaborone mayor Harry Mothei is listed for the same position - chairman - on all the three lists. Former BNF secretary general Akanyang Magama is also in the same position.

He is listed as secretary general in all the lists. Other common names are lawyer Gabriel Kanjabanga, Murray Dipate, Aubrey Lesaso and Sam Digwa. Kanjabanga, an ardent BNF activist who seeks the party presidency has been listed as  publicity chief.

Then there is MP Reggie Reatile and former MP Gordon Mokgwathi, who are listed as organising secretary and economic affairs secretary respectively.

Khumaga councillor, Thomas Kgethenyne of the BNF has told Mmegi the fact that some names appear in more than one list, means that the party membership is serious about reconciliation and people want to work together irrespective of their differences.

'It might also mean that the people (whose names appear in three or two lists) are people whose leadership qualities are highly appreciated. Look at Magama.

He is a shrewd administrator and has held the post of part secretary general.

A party needs a strong secretary general who delivers and his work as secretary general then was superb. Reports came on time and they were detailed for that matter.

Everyone knows that he is good and can deliver, hence they all featured him in their lobby-lists,' he explained.
