Batswana urged to do volunteer work

The call was made by participants at an Easter dinner organised by the Gathering of Virtuous Women (GVW) in Francistown last week.Tatitown Customary Court President, Ludo Margaret Mosojane, who was amoung the guests at the event said GVW has helped in bringing a positive change to the lives of needy people such as orphans and widows.

'I have realised that this group consists of more foreigners than Batswana because Batswana don't like to volunteer, they only want to work and get paid and I think it's high time they start to get involved in such kind of groups, ' said Mosojane.

The theme of the event was 'a case of woman bravery', chosen to highlight the fact that women are usually victims and therefore need to be empowered. Grace Sibanda, a member of the group said the group was formed on May 14, 2002 at the University of Botswana and draws its membership from African countries like Botswana, Zimbabwe and Nigeria.

'The group travels the length and breadth of the country assisting the poor and deprived in the society.  They have helped the sick lately at Gerald Estate and minister in the name of God, they are intimate friends, and soldiers ready to answer the call of Jesus, ' said Sibanda.

The chairperson of the group, Pastor Sarah Oladokun encouraged people to work together to build the nation regardless of nationality or denomination.
