My Star TV show to kick off with 23 contestants

Traditionally the Btv show, now in its fourth season, started off with 20 contestants vying for music stardom, but only last year the coordinators increased the number to 22. The director of the show, and also chief judge, Master D, says they increased the number to 23 because some contestants had tied on points.

He also tells Showbiz that they have retained Mascom as the sponsors yet again.  The Department of Arts and Culture is also financing the project although Master D was not willing to divulge the value of the sponsorships. Btv has given the company airtime to raise its own funds through advertising although last year Master D appealed to President Ian Khama to  urge Btv to pay them for the show.

Last year the My Star show released two music albums for the winner Kitso Selato, and runners-up, Dineo, and Naledi, who released the album under the name, Crystal.

Since December last year Master D have ensured that the My Star products go on road shows to raise awareness about the album and  try and open up doors for themselves.

This past weekend the My star products, joined by the 2008 winner, Tebogo Thagadikgora, performed in Maun and Kasane, according to Master D.
