Keba to inspire youngsters in Tswapong?

 

'I am gifted and inspired to make it in life both musically and otherwise and it is my wish that I would be able to inspire others to take a good path in life,' she said.

The stocky gospel musician, started in Tumasera on Saturday, and will be in Lerala on the second of next month for similar event.She told Showbiz that she is delighted to have been given the opportunity to address young people on issues of HIV and AIDS.

'I have always wanted to get such a chance. i have a responsibility towards this nation and singing alone cannot be enough. This is a rare opportunity often reserved for high profile government officials and leaders of the corporate sector. I am really happy,' she said.

 According to her, young people listen better when they are dealing with people of their generation and was hopeful that she would be able to inspire a lot of youth in the Tswapong area to take action and ensure that this Month of Youth Against AIDS plays its purpose as well as helping them make proper decisions in future.

A devoted Christian Phiri says though she believes that sex is voodoo before marriage, she felt it was important to explore all options available in the fight against AIDS.

'Obviously for someone like me, it is important to encourage young people to abstain and it is very possible to abstain but since it is clear that only few people favour that option we have to encourage them to condomise and stay loyal to their partners.

It is also important to make youngsters understand that sex on its own is a big step n one's life and that one needs to make serious consideration before they can engage in it,' Phiri said.

 Phiri said she has always wanted to give back to the community, adding that already she had organised a charity show in Tutume some time in August.  The Sikwane born musician who is also a teacher in Mahalapye would be a busy woman in the coming months.

Apart from the AIDS campaign, she is also preparing for Winnie Mashaba's show in Francistown on May 1 while at the same time she has to prepare for the release of her fourth album Gago tsenwe ka merwalo.

Other than Phiri the other local artistes chosen to share the stage with the popular South African musician are Kabelo Eric, Vusi as well as Gaolathe. Aparrently Mashaba was not impressed with the performances of some of the musicians who featured at here hugely successful show in Gaborone last year and she has since dropped them.
