BNSC district offices register progress

 

Nkwe said it was evident during the Botswana Games that the decision to spread offices to other parts of the country was bearing fruit. He said athletes from areas with BNSC officers performed better because they benefited from proper structures. He said the BNSC offices are crucial for keeping the records of upcoming athletes. He added that the establishment of the offices has seen the load of running sports programmes being shifted from teachers to BNSC officers. Nkwe however said there are challenges in running the offices because the BNSC does not have enough funds. He said they have posted only one officer in each office because they do not have the money to employ more. 'This means the officer cannot move at the desired pace. We can't employ more officers due to budget restrictions,' Nkwe said.

Serowe-based BNSC sports development officer, Shadrack Kapeko said there has been reasonable progress since the offices became operational. He said the BNSC is in the process of reviewing Re ba Bona programmes, which are not running in some areas like Bobonong and Mahalapye.  Kapeko said the challenge is that in some areas, the programme is run by teachers and it is always a problem when they are transferred
