End of the road for Bay United

Umlilo announced in their website yesterday that the club will cease conducting business while beginning a process that may lead to the Eastern Cape-based club being put up for sale.Speaking to KickOff.com many of the players confirmed that they did not get their salaries last month and don't know what the future holds for them after being told that the club will be put up for sale soon.

Midfielder Siyabulela Songwiqi says they were hoping that their meeting with the club chairman Sipho Pityane today (Wednesday) would give them some indication of what the future holds for them.

'It's tough as we did not get paid at the end of the month but we are hoping that the chairman will come up with something to resolve our situation even if it is a short termsolution.

'Some of us we have the huge responsibility of supporting our families and it will be difficult to survive without a source of income.'

Bay United listed the following reasons on their website for the club to decide to go under liquidation.

*The club's unsuccessful attempt to gain promotion to the Premier Soccer

League (PSL); *The PSL's imposition of a R1.3 million liability following the club's retrenchment of players at the end of the 2008/2009 season and

* Unsuccessful attempts to get financial and other forms of sponsorship assistance from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, the Eastern Cape Provincial Government and commercial sponsors.

Bay United, who were coached by David Bright had signed former Mochudi Centre Chiefs' players, Pontsho Moloi and Noah Maposa who have since terminated their contracts. (Kickoff, additional reporting by Mmegi)
