SA's Mahlangu comes to town

In an interview, one of the Holyness church fund-raising committee members, Kabelo Lesole, said initially Mahlangu's visit was just meant for the church, but they decided to take advantage of his popularity to host a music festival in his honour. Lesole said the festival would give Batswana a rare opportunity to meet with the singer.

Lesole would not say how much they hope to raise from the festival, but said they hope to raise a significant figure considering Mahlangu's popularity.

Mahlangu will perform alongside Joel Keitumele, Bakkie Molaodi, Tshepo Lesole and Tebby at an event to be held at Boipuso hall.  The charismatic singer will be visiting the country for the first time and should attract a huge audience. Though not as popular as similarly young pastors like Keke Phoofolo, Mahlangu commands a lot of following, especially after the release of his third album, Obrigado last year.

Mahlangu, a father of three girls, ventured into the music industry in 1999, the same year his first album was released.

However, he only became popular last year after the release of Obrigado that has now become a household song. The 38-year-old pastor won the second SABC Crown Gospel Music best song award with Obrigado last year, beating Benjamin Dube, Keke and Sfiso Ncwane.

Lesole encouraged Batswana to come in large numbers to enjoy the gospel music as well as give to a good cause.

Tickets for the event sell at P250 for gold, while normal ones sell at P150 each. Tickets can be bought from Mafia Soul, Riverwalk, and Lesedi Christian Centre.
