Six education officers interdicted over fraud

A letter signed by the establishment secretary at the ministry, Peter Mongwaketsi indicates that the interdicted officers include the chief executive secretary at the Kweneng District Council (KDC).

The action was taken after suspicions of fraud in procurement. It is reported the fraud was suspected in the procurement of stationery for primary schools in the Kweneng District. There is suspicion that correct procedures were not followed when the tenders for the supply were awarded.

Six employees have been interdicted indefinitely over the matter though they will receive full salaries. KDC spokesperson, Maipelo Kgengwenyane could not confirm nor deny the interdictions and requested a questionnaire.

The interdictions come hot on the heels of a similar action taken against 23 Ministry of Education officials last week. The officials were from the Tertiary Education Funding.

They were interdicted after investigations by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crimes (DCEC). The probe found many fraudulent transactions at the department.
