BNSC releases awards nominees

Boxing and athletics dominate the nominees' list.

A fierce battle is expected when boxer, Mmoloki Nogeng competes against long jumper, Gable Garenamotse and karate's Vikisikhale Majama for the Sportsman of the Year award. Sprinter, Amantle Montsho is favoured to retain the Sportswoman Of The Year award although she faces competition from netballer, Ogone Gabaratane and karateka, Bathami Ikhutseng.

Zone VI women volley club champions, Kutlwano are pitted against the 4x4 relay team and the kata team in the Team Of The Year category.

Botswana Netball Association (BONA) president Tebogo Lebotse is a surprise inclusion in the Administrator Of The Year award where she competes against Moses Bantsi of athletics and former volleyball president, Tsoseletso Magang (nee Nkala).

Netball's fortunes have been on the decline in recent seasons and it came as a surprise that Lebotse is nominated.

As is the norm, there are no nominees for the media and chairperson awards whose winners will only be announced at the event.

Meanwhile, BNSC executive secretary, Kitso Kemoeng said that preparations for the awards ceremony are going well although they have not secured a sponsor for the event. He appealed to potential sponsors to come on board as there is still time. 'We continue to invite business houses to come forth and partner with us. We offer attractive packages that stand to give sponsors healthy business returns if exploited,' he promised.  Kemoeng said the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS) provides 50 percent of the amount to be used in organising the event. The state-owned Btv and RB2 will broadcast the awards live.
