Boko tops BNF lobby list

 

The lists have current party spokesman Moeti Mohwasa, former secretary general Akanyang Magama, former Gaborone mayor Harry Mothei, Lemogang Ntime and Maemo Bantsi.

Boko is a human rights lawyer who made a name for himself in prominent cases like the legal tussle between Basarwa and government over relocation from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). He won the case for the Basarwa people. Boko is slated for the party presidency, whilst Mohwasa seeks to retain his position of information and publicity secretary.

Kgatleng East MP, Isaac Mabiletsa is slotted in for the vice-presidency. The MP has been highly active in the BNF but at one time, he joined the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), only to come back to his political home.

Mothei is fielded for the party chairmanship, which is currently held by Bashi Sengwaketsi.Magama, who was unceremoniously removed as secretary general, will be seeking to be voted back to his old position. Ntime, another well-known BNF party stalwart is the candidate for the position of secretary for political education. Nono Kgafela-Mokoka, a relative of the Bakgatla royal Kgosi Kgafela is slated for the position of deputy secretary.

Others are Murray Dipate, businessman-cum politician who stood for primary elections in Kweneng South.

He however lost to Kopano Rrannatshe. Bantsi, who beat BNF president Otsweletse Moupo in the party primaries for Gaborone West North is listed for the post of secretary of labour affairs. Other BNF activists in the lobby-list include David Rando, Neo Joel, Aubrey Leswaso and Sam Digwa.
