Urban music stars add colour to Magosi album party

The listening session of their new album came perhaps earlier than expected on Thursday last week right on the heels of news that their star producer, Press Beatz, who was injured in a road mishap, was yet to complete a couple of songs in the album.

It has since emerged that the group sought the assistance of another Eric Ramco producer, Goofy Mapitse, to add the finishing touches while Press Beatz is still recovering. However, Thobo Ruxion Kerekang of Magosi explains that there was nothing untoward in getting Goofy to finish the album as he was working with Press Beatz on the same production.

The Listening session held at the Lizard Lounge was then followed by the album's release party on Saturday where tens of local urban music artistes poured to titillate party animals with their hits, with former Duma FM afternoon drive man, Steez doing his Mochine o ichenchang song, wearing his white winter jacket, on top of his greenish top-you know just for the stage appearance although he might have appeared the odd man out with a jacket in the sweating club atmosphere.  Eugene Jackson took the fun further with his hits Tobetsa, and Phantsha, as well as tantalizing the audience with his famous duet with Helen Dikobe, although the woman was not on stage with Eugene on the evening.

Foster Juliano appeared in red shirt, red cap, performing the rap song, Rock your head. You remember the song that won him a Channel O music award before he sort of relocated overseas where he underwent a stage name change from Mista Doe to Foster Juliano?  He is re-launching himself as a Tswana rapper, hardly using any English. One of his forthcoming songs he performed on Saturday has a combination of Tswana cultural music and Afro pop beat, and the guy spits his rhymes like a typical African preacher in the song, Tshikinyega. Quite interesting. Then came Juju Boy with his acclaimed, Hurt Me, which never stops to bring down the roof.

K.Boss, glad in big red t-shirt, once again displayed impeccable rap skills as he presented, The Boss is here, and Grass pampiri, two of his well-appreciated compositions. The mainliners took to the stage with 30 minutes remaining before 2am, giving the revellers some of their popular hits like Sheika mmele, before delving into their new releases. Magosi rapper, Ruxion however explains that this was purely a release party, and not the album launch, adding that when the album launch is finally staged, it will be bigger and better, with a bigger venue preferred over the less spacious Lizard lounge.
