Mascom Volleyball League Gains Momentum

Though BDF was not in their usual element, they impressed their supporters. Kalavango showed maturity for a relatively new team and gave BDF VI a run for its money.

BDF VI coach Selebatso Mabutho conceded that his team was not at its best on the day. He said that though they started well in the first set, they slumped as the match progressed because they did not get much resistance from their opponents.

He said his players failed to receive and this affected their game. He said clubs have a tendency of being complacent when playing the 'so called' minnows and this could have been the reason for his team's lukewarm showing.

However, he was happy with his team's general performance, as it has won all its games. Kalavango coach Isaac Thengelani attributed his team's loss to concentration lapse. He was happy with his team's general performance because they were facing a more experienced side. He said his team is relatively new and that so far, it is doing well and they are improving with each game.

In another interesting match at SSKB, Magstimela beat Itekeng 3-2 in a highly emotional game. Magstimela won the first set 25-0 with Itekeng winning the second and third 25-21.

But Magstimela refused to give up as they played strongly in the third set and won 25-15 to take the game to the deciding fifth set. The decider  was a seesaw affair but Magstimela capitalised on Itekeng's mistakes and eventually won 21-19. Magstimela coach Director Lebetlwa did not take kindly to his team's loss as he felt the referee cheated them. Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) officials had to calm him time and again as he attempted to pounce on the umpire.

Earlier, his player, Kgosi Moala was given a red card after what seemed like an off the ball incident. After getting out of the court, he continued to threaten the umpire by swearing and pointing a finger at him.  In other Saturday fixtures, Victory Seekers' men beat Magstimela 3-2.  In the women game, Dynamites beat Magstimela 3-1 while BDF VI suffered a 3-0 at the hands of Kalavango.
