Obenetse Family receives P7,000.00

The money, donated by two individuals, was a response to an article that appeared in The Monitor newspaper last month highlighting the plight of this family with two boys who cannot fend for themselves.

The money was presented to the boys mother Kgotsong Obonetse by Mmegi Chief Northern Bureau Chief, Ryder Gabathuse. He adviced the family to keep the money in a savings account.

'You still have many challenges ahead of you. This money should be used to benefit the family,' said Gabathuse.

Accepting the donation Kgotsong Obonetse, who was clearly overwhelmed, broke down in tears and thanked her well-wishers. She stated that while the Selebi-Phikwe Town Council had claimed that they had blankets for her children they had still not given them to her.

Selebi-Phikwe Town Council Senior Public Relations Officer, Ogomoditse Gaokgethelwe had also mentioned that the council has provided the Obonetse family with a smart switch card loaded with P426.94 to use at retailing shops.

Obonetse on the other hand said the family is given cash of P81 by the Council and the money is collected from the Post Office while she gets P360 per month from the Ipelegeng programme.

She went on to explain that the children, Maikano and Dimpho cannot be registered independently as destitutes because they are still dependent on her as their mother.
