SA girls demolish Botswana

It was Tshegofatso Makinta who had a field day scoring five goals. The Home Sweepers' attacking midfielder tormented the hosts' defence for the entire game and had it not been for complacency, she could have netted more goals. The other goals came from Kelso Peskin, who scored a hat-trick. Robyn Moodaly also contributed one while Tricia Kootses scored the hosts' consolation goal.

Speaking to The Monitor Sport after the match, Luvhengo said her young girls played well with good attitude and work ethic. 'Botswana were compact in the opening minutes but we put pressure on them and they opened up.

Scoring two early goals helped us a lot as we started taking control of the game,' he said. Luvhengo added that though they go into the second leg in a fortnight with a big advantage, they would treat it professionally to avoid embarrassment.

In all honesty, the South Africans were just too good for their hosts and had it not been for poor finishing, they could have scored at least 12 goals. Inside 15 minutes, the South Africans were already leading 4-0. The score was 6-1 at the break and there was no coming back for the locals.

Botswana goalkeeper Kefilwe Tshambani had a nightmare of a game as she committed some basic errors. The Marang Junior Secondary School girl will have to work hard in her game in time for the return leg. The other disadvantage for the team is upfront, as they never put the visitors under pressure for the entire 90 minutes of the game. Motshidisi Selepe and Kgalalelo Nawa were found wanting though only Selepe was withdrawn later in the second half.
