GU Bow Out Of Coke Cup

The Brazilians won the game 2-1 courtesy of a Charles Mositwane brace.

The Fighters' skipper scored a goal in each half while Moyagoleele's only goal came through midfielder Tshepo 'Schoolboy' Molefe.

Despite going into the game as underdogs, Fighters were the first to draw blood as early as the seventh minute when Tumo Selogamaano set Mositwane, who was unmarked in the box, who beat GU goalkeeper Kgosietsile Senjoba for the goal.

Fighters' defence did well in the first half to deny GU's attacking duo of Wellington Maposa and Mandla Mgadla any chances. The two are currently leading the goal-scorers in the knockout competition.

Moyagolelele did not look threatening on attack and the game went to recess with Fighters still holding onto their lead.

GU came back more determined in the second stanza and were rewarded with an equaliser in the 73rd minute after Fighters' defence failed to clear the ball in a goalmouth melee. Molefe capitalised and equalised with a looping header.

Their happiness was however short-lived as Mositwane completed his brace a few minutes later following poor defending by Gobonyeone 'Shoes' Selefa and Tumisang Sekanonyane.

The brace earned him a P500 man of the match award. GU coach Manfred Chabinga made some changes, bringing in Mpho Mabogo and Mamikina Mayinga for Tshepo Molefe and Ofentse Nato, but Fighters managed to hold onto their lead to the end. With the league seemingly out of reach for Moyagolelele, they may have probably lost their only chance of grapping some silverware this season.

They will now have to work hard to make sure they at least reach the group stages of the African Champions League where there are better financial rewards. Chabinga blamed players' injuries for the team's inconsistency this season. The team played without Stephen Maposa who was serving a suspension and Vincent Phiri who was injured.

In other quarterfinal encounters played yesterday, Extension Gunners beat ECCO City Greens 2-0 in their own backyard to proceed to the semi-finals. Hedrick Moyo and Christopher Ndiyashimne scored the goals for Mapantsula.

Township Rollers beat Uniao Flamengo Santos 2-0 in a late night kick off in Molepolole. Mochudi Centre Chiefs and TAFIC will know their fate today after their game was abandoned last Tuesday night in Francistown.
