Culture Spears Find Gold In Piracy

Then a miracle happened when a promoter who was not quite sure about the popularity of the Botswana outfit in Harare decided to book them for two shows. The results? Kabelo Mogwe  tells Showtime Monitor that both shows were sold out to the amazement of the promoter who  paid them something in the region of P20 000 for the two gigs.

' It was amazing how everyone welcomed us in that town. We were like t Oliver Mtukudzi in Botswana..but I also found out that piracy is rampant there, mainly because we do not sell our music in Zimbabwe.

Perhaps we should step up our efforts to get it into the Harare shops, just like we did in South Africa. They(Zimbabweans) made us feel at home. I also realised that a number of Botswana artistes such as Vee, Shumba, and Franco, were selling on the black market, which shows the Zimbabwean market appreciates our music.'

Culture Spears front man declared: ' We are planning to go back there. If we can be appreciated like that in such a far city like Harare, then it means in Bulawayo, which is much closer to Botswana, we must be even more popular,'he said.
