Drama At BOMU Special Meeting As Kast Is Booed

However, things took a different turn for the microphone checker last week when he stood up to hold the mic at a Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) Special General meeting at Thapong Visual Arts Centre. Before he could even go half way, boos erupted and it was confusion all over. The master of ceremonies (MC) had to impose himself in a bid to halt the boos momentarily.

Kast seemed to have angered, especially a section of the crowd from Gantsi when he called for immediate election and voting out of the current BOMU committee, accusing them of prolonging their term in office.

Phemphi Puts Foot DownIt was a night of drama as another popular figure, Phemperetlhe Pheto, of Lekunutu Le Morena Fame, also showed the crowd just how menacing he could be. The clean gentleman was on the warpath as he called the 'rubble-rousers' to order, literally commanding them to shut up.  And shutting up they did, as the former BOMU president's tone indicated he was just about to beat the guts out of any dissident.

Rasina The Rabble-RouserRasina Wilfred Rasina, a former BOMU secretary general, also displayed a lot of anger at the meeting, shouting down at any speaker he deemed as wasting time. Rumba man Franco's comments also became a target of Rasina's fury.

The lawyer appointed to draft the new BOMU constitution also added to the drama when he described the BOMU constitution as 'rubbish paper'.

Bring Senyomfere for a prayerThere were early signs that the BOMU meeting was going to be a farce when comedian Senyomfere was asked to open the meeting with a prayer.  He made everyone burst into laughter right away when he told the gods that 'this is a meeting of sharks determined to tear each other apart'.  He was not completely off the mark for at some point, as the deliberations got hotter and hotter, one feared fists and missiles would start to fly.

Bomu Constitution Rejected, AdoptedJust when everyone thought that the likes of Kast, Mox Gaolape and company had won the day by influencing the majority to reject the adoption of the new BOMU constitution, things took a new turn in the wee hours of the morning, when the remaining few decided to undo the earlier resolution. The new BOMU draft constitution was passed, and the following day BOMU secretary general Seabelo Modibe phoned   Showtime Monitor that BOMU has a new constitution.
