BCL Fall Of Ground Leaves One Dead

It was not clear how many people were injured at the time of going to press, but initial, unconfirmed reports said two people were lightly injured and have been admitted at the mine hospital

While he confirmed that there had been a fall of ground at the mine and that there had been fatalities, BCL General Manager, Montwedi Mphathi would not state the number of people who died or got injured in the fall of ground. He would only be able to do so 'after the families of the deceased have been informed.'

The Monitor also sought to understand what the mine was doing towards ensuring the safety of its workers. With about 5,000 employees and contractors, BCL is the largest single site employer in the country and has over the last four decades been the life-blood of Selebi-Phikwe town.
