Government has outlawed fun - Ntuane

Speaking in Parliament this week, Ntuane asked what could possibly be wrong with people braaing meat at liquor outlets: 'What harm does a braai cause?,' he queried.

The fiery legislator said the government should allow nightclubs to open all night long to avoid people having to drink at irregular places.

Night-clubbing, he said, is allowed throughout the night in ordinary and normal societies, and as a normal society, Botswana should operate no differently from the others.  Ntuane said it was doubtful that save for a few religious groups, Batswana support the government's strict alcohol regulations. Ntuane's comments were made as the House debated the budget for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and were prompted by Minister Dorcus Makgato-Malesu's remarks that the government intended to regulate the production and sale of traditional beer before end of the year.

The youthful legislator is on record for saying people should expect to be told when to go to bed before long, considering the government's position on alcohol.
