Another suicide in Mathangwane

This comes hardly a week after another man allegedly committed suicide in the same village after attempting to kill his girlfriend.

According to the Commander of Tatitown Police Station Superintendent Tebogo Madisa, the latest incident was reported around 9am, while the man must have committed suicide the previous night.

The deceased was staying with his 90 year-old mother who explained that her son had gone out to a local bar on the fateful night. 'He usually makes breakfast for his mother,' Madisa said. 'Hence she was surprised on Saturday when he did not come to give her breakfast.'

She then entered her son's dwelling on the compound and called out his name. When there was no response, the old woman - who is nearly blind - groped around and was alarmed when her hands came upon a pendulous object confirmed later by neighbours to be the body of her son.

The body was taken to a mortuary to await a post-mortem examination. Investigations continue.

Still in Francistown, a Standard 4 boy of Our Lady Of The Desert Primary School is recuperating in hospital after jumping from a bridge into the Tati River below.

Superintendent Madisa said the incident occurred last Thursday afternoon while the boy was playing with others on his way from school. The boy possibly wanted to demonstrate to the others that he could fly as they do in the movies, Madisa said.
