Mafolofolo star joins Diphatsa

'If I can get a chance to go back, I would really love to play for Mafolofolo again,' he said. Initially, the charismatic attacker trained with Diphatsa but played for Gaborone-based Mafolofolo. However, he decided to stop because his performance was declining due to the fact he was training with one team and playing for another.

Sibanda said he was forced to join Diphatsa after relocating to Francistown where he is working for the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) as a development officer.

The Palapye-born star started his volleyball career at Mabogo Community Secondary School. He later joined Motlakase volleyball team before being recruited by Mafolofolo in 2001 where he played briefly before moving to Cuba to study physical education and sports. He re-joined Mafolofolo when he came back. He has been a key member of Mafolofolo over the years. Sibanda also plays for the national team.

Diphatsa coach, George Leabaneng said they are excited about the arrival of the player. He believes a player of Sibanda's calibre can lead the team to league glory. Sibanda is expected to form a deadly combination with Tabaka Mothudi.

Mafolofolo coach, Kabo Ntshinogang described Sibanda as a shining example both on and off the field. 'Losing him is like losing seven players. But we have been there before, we will survive,' he said. He said currently his team is not looking at winning the league but building for the future. The team has largely new and inexperienced players. Ntshinogang said most senior players are unable to train regularly due to work commitments.
