Favourable draw for softball team

Botswana Softball Association (BSA) spokesperson Kabelo Kwape said save for 2006 runners-up USA, Australia and New Zealand, there is not much to separate Botswana from the other three opponents.

In Group A, the only other African country in the competition, South Africa, face defending champions Japan, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Netherlands, Great Britain, Argentina and Cuba. The World Championships will be played in Caracas, Venezuela in June. In their last appearance in 2006, Botswana finished 14 out of 16 countries. This is the finish by Botswana women since they began competing in the tournament in 1994.

Meanwhile, Kwape said preparations and fund- raising activities for the world event are underway. This weekend the team plays a local select side in Gaborone. Another friendly match against Wells has been lined-up. Kwape said the two friendly matches will help selectors come up with the final team. He added that if they have money, they will play South Africa as part of their preparations. Titeo Mangope is the team coach assisted by Mmatsheki Seikano.
