Seretses mum on RFT investigations

The company has won tenders worth over P1 million from departments under his ministry, he confirmed to Parliament recently. Among the departments under Seretse's ministry are Botswana Defence Force (BDF), Botswana Police, Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) among others. RFT Botswana has in the past won tenders to supply one of the departments with equipment.

Speaking in a brief interview yesterday, Seretse said that it would be unprofessional and unwise to comment on matters that are being investigated by Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crimes (DCEC). 'I can't comment on matters that are under DCEC investigations. It would be unprofessional and unwise for me to do that,' he said.He stated that the DCEC should be given time to do their investigations and that he would be prepared to answer any quieries once the findings have been brought forward.

The DCEC also directly falls under Seretse's ministry and is headed by one of his relatives Rose Seretse, who has also not availed herself for comment on the matter and progress made so far. In a written response to our enquiries, the DCEC public relations officer, Lentswe Motshoganetsi said, 'unfortunately, at this point in time we are unable to comment on the issues you have raised'. He said that the director was too busy and could not comment on the case in particular. He said the DCEC would release information when the time is right.

Recently President Ian Khama told a political rally in Francistown that a former minister who is among the founders of Botswana Movement for Democracy was frustrated that he forced him to step down because he was under investigation. Political parties have called on Seretse to step down to allow officers under his ministry to conduct investigations without possible interference.
